About a week ago, my family and friends began using social media to spread the word about Benjamin’s Gift of Music. As of this writing, the site has been shared 513 times. This is entirely grassroots – no corporation, no social media guru, even the Children’s Hospital Foundation has not done anything active to spread the word. This is going on because a few people shared the site, and a few of their friends did too, and now it’s been shared 513 times. Again, wow. If you’re one of those people, thank you so much.
And even better news, some very generous people have decided they want to help make a music therapy program happen, and they’ve donated to it. We’ve received another $2,500 in donations since last weekend. If you’re one of those people, me and my family are very grateful! Some day, you might visit the children’s hospital, and if you hear music, you’ll know you helped to make that possible.
Officially, we’re at the $42,500 mark as of this writing. But I’ll let you in on the unofficial news – we have commitments for over $20,000 more. Those donations just haven’t made it to the people at the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation yet, so they’re not yet showing up in the grand total. We’re getting really close!
If you’ve been thinking about donating, but haven’t got there yet, here’s all the ways you can do that!
The picture I’m posting today is from the day my family’s world changed forever. This is Benjamin in the Regina General Hospital, a couple of hours after we first got the news of his brain tumour. Two days before this was taken, Benjamin was having a ball helping on the farm and we had no idea anything was wrong. Right after this was taken, he was flown to Edmonton for emergency brain surgery. It can happen so fast.
